leadersLeaders of various countries are sending message of condolences over the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Accordingly, North Korean president Kim Jong-un, Islamic Republic of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota, Kuwaiti Premier, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung have sent message of condolences.

Similarly, African leaders including South Sudan President Salva Kiir, Zimbabwean President Robert Muagbe, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, President of Burkina Faso Blasé Compaore, and Saharan Arab Democratic Republic President, Mohammed Abdul-Aziz and King Mswati III of Swaziland have also sent message of condolences to First Lady Azeb Mesfin, President Girma Woldegirogis and Acting Premier Hailemariam Desalegn.

In their message of condolences, the leaders said PM Meles besides his great deeds for his country, he played significant role to ensure development peace and stability in the horn of Africa in particular and for the whole of Africa in general.

They said PM Meles was great leader who had remarkable contribution in forging sound cooperation with their respective counties.

 The leaders wish comfort to families of PM Meles and to the people and government of Ethiopia.

Similarly, the governments of Portugal, Slovenia, and Israel expressed condolences over the sudden death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.

Janez Jansa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia said “We regret the loss of one of Africa’s most charismatic leaders and the initiator of the fundamental Ethiopian policies and strategies with a broad vision that made Ethiopia an important player on regional security affairs.”

Pedro Passos Coelho, the Prime Minister of Portugal said, “At this time of sorrow, our thoughts are with the entire people of Ethiopia and the bereaved family of the late Prime Minister that dedicated most of his life to the development and progress of his country,” adding that “Prime Minister Meles will be remembered for his peace efforts and the promotion of his vision for greater regional cooperation and economic growth of the entire continent”.

Prime Minster of Israel, Benjamin Netnayehu also expressed his deepest sorrow on the sudden death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, on behalf of the government and people of Israel.
